  1. David Fish says:

This is a very smart, good looking watch which on appearances far outdoes other watches in its price range.

I won’t babble, but I do want to address some of the scruples people have made:

Firstly, on my watch at least, it is very easy to pull out the crown to the first position without slipping to the second position. Also, whilst this does stop the second hand, the second wheel (cog) keeps in motion so that when you are finished the second hand returns to the place where it should be, therefore not hacking time as one reviewer has stated.

Secondly the instructions are relatively simple so that having read them once you will be more than able to do most of the things you want to without having to refer back to the manual.

I will agree that the watch does take some time to display the set alarm time, and that the alarm is rather faint so cannot be relied upon to wake you from heavy sleep. Also there is no ’sleep’ function so the alarm is a once only affair.

All things considered, this is an excellent watch for the price for anyone who does not require the alarm to be a major function.

  2. The watch face is VERY dark blue, a colour which does not translate well on the product pictures.

  3. This Citizen watch is one of the best out of all the watches that I have ever used. It comes with an alarm (but not so loud if you are a deep sleeper) which can be switched off or on, and an entire calender (Month and Date). If you have the manual, it wouldn’t be hard to figure out how to operate the watch. One of the major reason that I love about this watch is that the glass is scratch proof. Cool unhh. Also, lets not forget about the solar. The watch is solar powered and it lasts long. The minute and second hand also glow in the dark. I would recommend this watch to anyone who wants to purchase it.

  4. i,ve owned the watch for 3 years now as as of yet have had no problems.

its looks as if it costs at least 5 times the value and over the time the crystal hasn’t scratched.

the time is always spot on without having to worry about losing time.

the only issues is way the time and alarms are set. it takes some getting used to but barring this its a great watch

big plus no battery change needed and always factors leap years automatically.

  5. A very nice watch with an attractive collection of functional dials. The watch feels heavy and well made, with a nice balance of polished, matt and dark components on the screen. I particularly like the polished Roman numerals.

It has a perpetual calendar, duel time and solar power, so could be used with no alteration at all until 28th Feb 2100, with just a day of strong sunshine a year.

The alarm is easy to set and works over 24 hours, and adjusts if you are using the second time zone (local time) display. The calendar display shows week day, month day, month and leap year clearly, as I would want from a perpetual calendar. Another dial also shows the 24 hour time, important when setting the alarm, although this dial is slightly too small to show much more than whether the time is AM or PM.

The watch is not perfect. Using the functions needs a little practice. For instance I need to pull the crown out slightly to select options, but it tends to pull out all the way. This hacks the time (sets the seconds to zero) and therefore breaks the time. This is annoying. When setting the alarm, the main hands move to show the alarm time. This can take an annoyingly long time, more than a minute or two. It’s therefore a little hard to just view the alarm time. The alarm volume is also week, probably because of the low power available. The duel time only adjusts by whole hours. For anybody travelling to Southern Australia this would be anoying since that state is only 30 minutes difference. Also some of the functions cannot be worked without learning the manual, especially setting the dates. However this is set at the factory so would not be a problem.

However the strengths of the watch easily out-weight any problems. The watch looks and feels a lot more expensive that it is, with all components giving some real function. It’s nice to look at, feels nice, and is nice to use. I am very happy with this watch.
