Grand Theft Auto IV

Product Description

What does the American Dream mean today? For Niko Bellic fresh off the boat from Europe, it is the hope he can escape his past. For his cousin, Roman, it is the vision that together they can find fortune in Liberty City, gateway to the land of opportunity. As they slip into debt and get dragged in a criminal underworld by a series of shysters, thieves and sociopaths, they discover that the reality is very different from the dream in a city that worships money and status, and is heaven for those who have them and a living nightmare for those who don’t.

Grand Theft Auto IV is a classic game. I’ve not completed it yet, but of half the game I’ve played it is amazing! This game is probably the best I have ever played and I’m not joking! The sheer freedom, graphics, and amazing physics applied to many objects in the game make this a killer PC game – PROVIDED YOU HAVE THE REQUIRED HARDWARE. Let’s face it – this was a “lazy” port, but that doesn’t make it a bad game. All it means is that you need greater hardware than was needed on the 360 and PS3. As I do – I can speak of the game truthfully, as it funs fine at 1080p on very high for ALMOST everything except view distance. GTA IV is a masterpice of game development. One feature which is the icing on the cake is that Euphoria physics is used, so jacking a car may result in you being dragged 100 metres down the road before getting flung off!

This brings me to another point. By pressing F2 or Select on the 360 pad at ANY TIME (obviously not cutscenes) you can save the last 30 secs of footage. In fact it’s deeper than that. You can – from your phone – access the video editor, where you import clips you took and edit them. Amazingly the footage you took earlier can be paused and the camera REFOCUSED on a different point, so you can create slick 10 minute films for the Rockstar Social Club!

I love this game to bits and love everything about it.

My specs are my home built PC if your interested:

Gigabyte EP45T-UD3P Motherboard – which is excellent!

    Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 @ stock 2.83 GHz

EVGA GTX 285 1 Gigabyte RAM

    Four Gigs of DDR3 RAM

  2. Installed this on new PC with Windows 7 64 bit

Clicked open the game and got this message. The application has encountered a fatal error and must close.

Contacted Rockstar support who gave me advice on how to treat the issue when running XP. Usefull!

I tried running the app as Vista and this worked; I was now at the screen where I click PLAY. I clicked PLAY and it went in a loop and brought me back to the same screen where I click PLAY.

Contaced Rockstar support again but they didn’t reply. Contacted them twice more and they continued to ignore me.

Contacted them again to have my Rockstart account deleted and requetsed they confirm this to me. They deleted the account but never responded.

They really have failed this time round and are not even prepared to face up to it. If you have an issue they will just ignore you.

Do not waste your time with this game.

Bought this for my partner. The graphics look great and the story seems good but you need a super computer to run it properly. Even with every spec in low performance, it is still slow.

  4. Okay, Ive played this game on the Xbox 360 and it is a brilliant game. But for PC, its a nightmare to install. Whilst I was installing it didn’t seem to bad to what everyone had said, then eventually it did. Everytime you had the chance to click the ‘Play’ button on the actual main menu of the game, it’d tell you that you had to do something else, like verify your key, or update the Windows Live gaming thing. This got pretty damn irritating. After a long process installing it, and checking many times that my PC could run this, it couldnt hardly run it, even with everything on lowest. This was disappointing and I sent it back for a refund.

So overall, unless you have a pretty high end computer, I’d recommend you get this for Xbox 360.

I’ve had to overclock my Intel Quad Core CPU from 3.0 GHZ to 3.66 to get it to run OK and then I can only have the graphics settings three quarters of the way since I’ve only got an ATI Radeon 5850, but even so I found this quite outrageous, all of my other games run good on 3.0 GHZ CPU speed but not this one. I mean it does look quite good and the single player game I found was entertaining and the multiplayer too, but even so..

Like someone else said, playing PC games are becoming and elitist thing to be doing.

There’s always been games that have been more demanding to run than others but to play PC games is still very expensive. I pity the people who work, have a good PC and only be able to play every now and again.

All in all poorly written game that was designed for consoles with the graphics to be turned down low but still overall quite an entertaining game, as long as you have a good enough PC to play it on unless you turn the setting right down.

    6/10.
