How do I change the settings to connect using my wifi instead of cable on laptop?

I connect using cable, when i first got cable it was on and running at 100mbps but the internet would not connect, so i changed the settings to make it work (i dont remember how). But now, i have this like, wifi scanner and i need to change the settings to connect using that instead of cable. (so i can mooch internet connection >:)) Link to the original site

What is the difference between a Intel WiFi Link 5100 802.11 Wireless-N Mini Card and a Dell Wireless 1397 802?

Im planning on buying a brand new Dell Laptop, and my issue is price difference. And I noticed with the difference comes a few changes in the computer. But what I want to know which one of those Wifi things are better than the other? The second one is on the cheaper laptop and Id like to know why it would be cheaper. Thank you in advance. Ive been wanting to get a Linux operating system but i dont know which one to pick. Im looking for one that doesnt get all choppy when watching for example Youtube. But im still looking for one with the features of Ubuntu with like all that animation stuff. I just need one thats good with both onlne media and media stored on your computer and with all the cool fancy stuff that Ubuntu has. Could someone please suggest one? Link to the original site
